I spent 15 years as a restaurant General Manager. 60+ staff. $2.8 million in annual revenue. I built teams, handled crises in real time, and ran operations that most people in office jobs have never experienced.
When I decided to transition careers, I assumed my experience would carry me. I was wrong.
I sent over 400 applications. I got 3 callbacks. For three months, I thought I was the problem.
Turned out the problem was the system. 75% of resumes get filtered out by automated screening before a human ever touches them. My experience was real, but my resume wasn't structured the way the algorithm expected.
Once I learned how to use AI to fix my resume, optimize my LinkedIn, prepare for interviews, and negotiate salary, everything changed. Callback rate went from under 1% to about 18%.
I'm not special. The process just changed and most people don't know it. Now I teach mid-career professionals how to do the same.
